Kitchen Remodeling in Northern Virginia

Your kitchen is more than a place to cook. It’s where your family gathers in the morning before school, where friends linger after dinner, and where memories are made every single day. When it stops working for you (when the layout feels cramped, the cabinets are outdated, or the space just doesn’t reflect who you are anymore) it’s time for a change. At Jabs Construction, we’ve been transforming Northern Virginia kitchens for over 45 years. As a fourth-generation family business, we understand that a kitchen remodel is one of the most personal investments you can make in your home, and we treat it that way.

From simple countertop replacements to complete layout reconfigurations, our team of master carpenters, experienced project managers, and in-house registered architect brings the expertise and personal attention your kitchen deserves. We serve homeowners throughout Fairfax, Prince William, Stafford, Fredericksburg, and beyond!

Is This You?

Every homeowner comes to us with a unique situation. Here are some of the most common stories we hear, and how we help.

The Homeowner Who’s Ready for a Fresh Start

You’ve lived with the same kitchen for 15 or 20 years. The cabinets are dated, the countertops are worn, and those bulkheads above the wall cabinets have always bothered you. You know you want something new, but you’re not sure where to start. And the thought of making the wrong decisions, spending a lot of money, and ending up with something you don’t love is genuinely stressful.
What worries you
Where do I begin? What if the choices I make don’t work together? What if the project takes forever and my kitchen is torn up for months?
How we help
We walk you through every decision in a logical sequence so nothing feels overwhelming. We’ll help you select cabinets, countertops, backsplashes, lighting, and fixtures that all work together as a cohesive whole. Our project scheduling keeps construction moving efficiently so your kitchen is back in service as quickly as possible.
How you'll feel when it's done
Proud. You’ll want to show it off. You’ll finally have the kitchen you always imagined — and you’ll wonder why you waited so long.

The Growing Family

Your family has grown and your kitchen hasn’t kept up. You need more storage, better flow, and ideally an island where the kids can do homework while dinner is being made. You’ve been pinning ideas online for years, but turning those inspiration photos into a real plan for your specific home feels daunting.
What worries you
Will it actually work in my space? Can we really fit an island? How do we keep the family fed and functioning during construction?
How we help
We start by listening (carefully listening) to how your family uses the kitchen. We look at the existing layout and identify what’s possible in your specific space. We’ll tell you honestly whether an island will work, whether removing that pantry closet opens up better options, and how to get the storage you need without sacrificing flow.
How you'll feel when it's done
Like your home finally works the way your family actually lives. The kitchen becomes the hub it was always meant to be.

The Empty Nester or Retired Couple

The kids are gone and you’re ready to invest in yourselves. You want a beautiful, updated kitchen: one that reflects your taste and makes everyday cooking a pleasure. Return on investment matters to you, but so does actually enjoying the space you’ll be living in for years to come.
What worries you
Is this worth the investment? Will we love it or regret it? Will we get the quality we’re paying for?
How we help
With four generations of craftsmanship behind us and a long list of awards and five-star GuildQuality reviews, we stand behind every project we build. We’ll discuss your goals openly and help you understand what choices provide the best value for your investment, not just financially, but in terms of daily enjoyment.
How you'll feel when it's done
Confident the investment was worth every penny, and genuinely happy every time you walk into your kitchen.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a kitchen remodel take?
It depends on the scope of the project. A countertop-and-backsplash refresh might take one to two weeks. A full kitchen gut-and-reconfiguration typically runs six to ten weeks from the start of construction. The biggest variable is cabinet lead time. Custom or semi-custom cabinets can take four to eight weeks to arrive after ordering. We build that into your project schedule so there are no surprises.
How much does a kitchen remodel cost in Northern Virginia?
Kitchen remodels in Northern Virginia range widely based on scope, materials, and the complexity of any layout changes. A targeted refresh including new countertops, backsplash, and fixtures might run $15,000 – $30,000. A full reconfiguration with new cabinets, layout changes, and new appliances typically ranges from $50,000 to $100,000 or more. We provide detailed, itemized proposals so you know exactly what you’re getting and where every dollar is going. We also include product allowances in our estimates so you have flexibility in your selections.
Do I need to move out during a kitchen remodel?
Most of our clients stay in their homes during a kitchen remodel. We’ll work with you to set up a temporary cooking area and minimize disruption as much as possible. During the most intensive phases (demolition, rough plumbing, or flooring ) things can get dusty and loud, but we take care to protect adjacent living spaces and clean up at the end of each workday.
Can you remove a wall to open up my kitchen?
Often yes, but it depends on whether the wall is load-bearing. Tim Jabs, our registered architect, evaluates structural conditions as part of our design process. If a wall can be removed, we handle all the structural work. If a full removal isn’t feasible, there are often creative alternatives like a pass-through or partial opening that achieve a similar open feel.
Can I make changes once the project has started?
We encourage all major decisions to be finalized before construction begins, and our process is designed to help you do exactly that. Changes during construction can affect the schedule and cost, so we work hard upfront to get everything right before the first nail is pulled. That said, we’re experienced at handling the occasional change order professionally and transparently.
Do you handle the permits?
Yes. If your kitchen remodel requires a building permit (which is typically required for any work involving structural changes, electrical, or plumbing) we handle the entire permit process with the county on your behalf.
