Is This You?

The Homeowner Who Wants an Open Floor Plan

Your home was built with all the traditional rooms: formal living room, formal dining room, separate kitchen… and it feels closed off and dated. You see open-concept homes everywhere and want that light, airy, connected feeling. But you’re worried about what’s inside those walls.
What worries you
Which walls can actually be removed? Will taking out a wall damage the structure? What does that kind of work cost?
How we help
With an in-house registered architect on staff, we evaluate structural conditions and tell you exactly what’s possible. We explain the difference between load-bearing and non-load-bearing walls, what it takes to remove each, and the costs involved. We’ve opened up hundreds of floor plans in Northern Virginia homes and know how to create that open, flowing feeling you’re looking for.
How you'll feel when it's done
Like you have a completely new home, without moving. The light, the space, the connection between rooms will change how you use your home every day.

The Longtime Homeowner Ready to Personalize

You’ve lived in your home for years and it’s been comfortable, but it’s never really felt like you. Plain walls, builder-grade trim, hollow-core doors, basic railings. You want to add character and detail that reflects your taste and makes the home feel elevated and personal.
What worries you
How do I know which details will look good together? Will it actually make a difference, or will it just look busy? Will the work be high quality?
How we help
Our master carpenters are genuine craftsmen who take pride in clean, precise trim work. We help you understand the options (crown molding profiles, base trim sizes, door styles, railing designs) and guide you toward choices that work together and suit your home’s architecture. The results speak for themselves.
How you'll feel when it's done
Like your home finally feels finished. The details that used to bother you will be gone, replaced by craftsmanship that makes you proud.

The Family That Needs More Usable Space

You have an unfinished basement that’s been used for storage for years. Meanwhile, the kids need a place to hang out, you need a home office, and a guest room would come in handy. You know the space is there, you just haven’t made the leap.
What worries you
How much will finishing the basement cost? Will it feel like a real living space or just a finished basement? Do we need an egress window?
How we help
We’ve finished basements across Northern Virginia and know how to make them feel like genuine living spaces, not afterthoughts. We’ll assess egress requirements, discuss layout options that maximize the usability of the space, and help you plan a basement that works hard for your family.
How you'll feel when it's done
Amazed that you waited this long. Finished basements consistently deliver strong return on investment and transform how a family uses their home.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if a wall in my home is load-bearing?
The honest answer is: don’t guess. Walls that run perpendicular to floor joists, walls that stack directly above one another on multiple floors, and walls near the center of the home are often load-bearing, but the only reliable way to know is to evaluate the framing and structural conditions. Our registered architect does this assessment as part of our process, and we give you a clear answer before any work begins.
How much does it cost to finish a basement in Northern Virginia?
A straightforward basement finishing project (framing, drywall, flooring, lighting, and a drop ceiling) typically runs $40 to $70 per square foot. A more elaborate build-out with a full bathroom, wet bar, egress windows, and higher-end finishes can run significantly more. We provide detailed proposals based on the specific scope of your project.
Can you add crown molding to an existing home without major disruption?
Yes, and it’s one of the most cost-effective ways to transform the feel of a room! Our carpenters are experienced at working around existing conditions and can install crown molding cleanly and efficiently in most homes. Multi-piece crown assemblies, which create a more substantial and architectural look, are one of our signature offerings.
What's the difference between a pocket door and a barn door?
A pocket door slides into a cavity inside the wall: it completely disappears when open and is ideal where space is tight. A barn door slides on a track in front of the wall. It’s more visible and has become a popular design feature in contemporary and farmhouse-style interiors. Both are options we install regularly. We’ll discuss which makes more sense for your specific situation.
Do interior remodeling projects require permits?
Cosmetic work, such as painting, flooring, trim, door replacements, generally doesn’t require a permit. Projects involving structural changes (wall removal), electrical work, or egress modifications do. We assess permit requirements for your specific project and handle all permitting on your behalf.
