Exterior Remodeling in Northern Virginia

Is This You?

The Homeowner Who Wants Better Curb Appeal

You pull into your driveway and the house looks… fine. But it doesn’t have the presence you want. The front door has no cover, there’s no architectural detail to speak of, and the house feels flat and uninviting from the street.
What worries you
Will a portico actually make a difference? Will it look like it was always there or like an add-on? How much does something like that cost?
How we help
A well-designed front portico is one of the highest-impact, most cost-effective exterior upgrades you can make. Our registered architect designs porticos that are proportionally correct for your home’s style. The roofline, columns, and trim details are all considered so it looks original, not added on.
How you'll feel when it's done
Proud to pull into your driveway. Your home will have the presence and personality it always deserved.

The Homeowner Who Wants Outdoor Living Space

You have a backyard you enjoy, but no real place to sit, entertain, or relax outside. A plain concrete pad or a basic deck that’s seen better days isn’t cutting it. You want a space where you can grill, entertain, and enjoy the outdoors, even in Virginia’s notoriously humid summers.
What worries you
What material should I use for a deck? Should I do a screen porch or stay open? How do I make it work with the layout of my house?
How we help
We’ve built hundreds of decks, porches, and outdoor living spaces across Northern Virginia and love helping homeowners figure out the right solution for their specific house and lifestyle. We’ll walk you through the tradeoffs between pressure-treated wood and composite materials, open decks and screened porches, and covered versus uncovered spaces.
How you'll feel when it's done
Like you just added another room to your house. A well-designed outdoor living space completely changes how you use your home and how much you enjoy it.

The Homeowner Looking for More Light

You have a room, maybe a home office, a bedroom, or a side room, that feels dark and closed in. There’s a wall with no windows where a window could transform the entire feel of the space. You’ve thought about it but aren’t sure if it’s straightforward or complicated.
What worries you
Is adding a window a big deal structurally? Will it match the existing windows? How much does it cost?
How we help
Adding a window is often simpler than homeowners expect. We assess the wall, handle any structural requirements, and match the new window to your home’s existing style. The transformation in natural light and connection to the outdoors is immediate and dramatic.
How you'll feel when it's done
You’ll wonder how you ever tolerated that dark room. Natural light changes everything.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between a portico and a front porch?
A portico is a covered structure over the front door, typically supported by columns and integrated with the roofline of the house. It provides shelter at the entry and adds significant architectural character. A front porch is a larger covered structure that runs across part or all of the front of the home, with enough room to sit and spend time. Both improve curb appeal and function; which is right for your home depends on the architecture, your goals, and your budget.
Should I use pressure-treated wood or composite decking?
Both are good choices, and the right answer depends on your priorities. Pressure-treated wood costs less upfront and is a proven, durable material. Composite decking costs more initially but requires virtually no maintenance — no staining, sealing, or replacing boards due to rot or splinters. For families with kids and busy schedules, the long-term low maintenance of composite is often worth the premium. We work with both and will give you an honest comparison for your specific project.
Do I need a permit for a deck or porch?
Yes. Most decks and porches require a building permit in Northern Virginia jurisdictions. We handle all permitting on your behalf. Unpermitted decks and porches create real problems when you sell your home, so doing it right from the start matters.
How long does an exterior project take?
A front portico typically takes one to two weeks. A deck can take two to four weeks depending on size and complexity. A screen porch might run three to six weeks. These timelines assume permits are in hand. Permit processing times vary by jurisdiction and are factored into the overall project schedule.
Can you add a fireplace or heaters to a screen porch?
Yes. We’ve incorporated gas fireplaces, electric heaters, and infrared heaters into screen porch projects that allow homeowners to use the space comfortably well into the fall and even on mild winter days. These additions significantly extend the season and add real enjoyment to the investment.
